Growing The Empowered Child

About Us

TRANSFORMING LIVES AND GROWING VISIONS?

Growing Empowered Child CIC, is an alternative development setup for disengaged child who are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream education. We aim to provide children the necessary guidance to help them ‘normalise’ their behaviours, improve their self-image, and overcome the challenges of neglect, loss, abuse or trauma in order to fit in and cope with school routines/expectations.We have a structured program that  supports and empowers young individuals to identify, freely express and fulfil their potentials. We provide specialized tools that enable children and young people to  develop self-esteem and self-confidence, and handle their fears and anger.

Our learning tools also enhance the child’s ability to learn and helps them to develop interest in their own education. Children that value themselves and their abilities are more likely to be assertive, value other people, cooperate better with other people, and grow to become responsible adults.

An empowered child is one who is happy, confident, creative, cooperative and driven to excel. And it is our brand promise to grow empowered children for a better world.

Afuah A Ahorgah-Dorfia

Founder & Director

Afuah Ahorgah-Dorfia is a banking professional with some 15 years of experience who has a long-standing passion for her voluntary work with children, particularly her work with the Growing the Empowered Child (GEC) Programme. She has worked for the last ten years as a volunteer class teacher at Etherean Mission Centre (Charity). Afuah discovered the power of the approach used by the GEC programme whilst undertaking postgraduate studies, and she has since researched the area thoroughly and become fully trained and experienced in the implementation of the programme. She has developed the approach into a set of interventions designed to help children transition through various stages of education and specifically has developed a method to help children under threat of exclusion from mainstream education.

Her passion and belief in the effectiveness of GEC have resulted in her forming a community interest company, Growing the Empowered Child CIC, limited by guarantee and started as a not-for-profit business created to facilitate the delivery of Afuah’s programme to children at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. Afuah uses GEC programmes to address another concern with children like Social, Emotional and Mental health, Safeguarding Concerns and Risk, Inability to assess curriculum and many others.
